Anabela Gonçalves Pronto

• Anabela Pronto received the Dipl. Eng. Degree in Materials Engineering from Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCT) of New University of Lisbon, in 1992. In 1996, she began her career in Electrical Department of FCT, as lecturer, in the area of energy and electrical machines. At 2010, she received her PhD degree in energy field. Jointly with teaching and research work in energy field, from 1994 to 2003 she also participated in European Union projects, through FCT, in the field of systems of energy production and conversion, and their social, environmental and economic implications. A great number of these projects are concerning developing countries. Since 2010, she is assistant professor at FCT in Electrical Engineering Department. Since 2010, she has published eleven scientific papers in international journals with referees. She has also collaborated in several R&D projects. Actually she participates in H2020 European Projects, Nobel Grid and Storage4Grid. She is an integrated member of Centre of Technology and Systems, Uninova (Portugal). Since the end of 2014, she has also collaborated with European Commission as individual evaluator and vice chair for European research projects evaluation processes.

• Applied superconductivity to energy power systems and electrical machines.

• Energy markets is also emerging as one of her area of research, with several master students working in this field.

Daniel Aelenei

• Daniel Aelenei is an assistant professor of building physics and building technical services at Department of Civil Engineering and and researcher at Center of Technology and Systems - Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal. He is responsible for taught graduate and postgraduate courses in energy efficiency of buildings and for coordinating the Postgraduate Course on Façade Engineering. He is co-author of around 50 peer reviewed publications (journal, book chapter or conference proceeding) and responsible for supervision of 40 MSc and 4 PhD theses.

  The research of Daniel Aelenei is focused on the low-energy buildings and in particular on net zero energy performance of buildings. He is Member of Committee of COST Actions TU1403 “Adaptive Facades Network”, co-subtask leader of Annex 67 – “Energy Flexible Buildings” of the International Energy Agency Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (EBC), member of EU Interreg Project “SUDOKET – Mapping, consolidating and disseminating Key Enabling Technologies (KET) for the building sector in the SUDOE area” and member of H2020 EU Project – “NANOGUARD2AR - nanomaterials-based innovative engineering solution to ensure sustainable safeguard to indoor air”. He is also the principal investigator of the MIT Portugal Project – “FIRST - Mapping flexibility of urban energy systems” (MITEXPL/SUS/0015/2017)

João Martins

• João F. A. Martins was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1967. He received the Electrical Engineer degree from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1990, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the same institute in 1996 and 2003, respectively. João F. A. Martins joined Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Electrical Engineering Department), Portugal, as an Assistant Professor, in 2007. From 1995 to 2007, he was with Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Setúbal, Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal), Portugal. From 1990 to 1994, he was with DOMÓTICA – Estudo e Projecto de Edifícios Inteligentes Lda (Study and Project of Intelligent Buildings Lda) as Project Manager and Energy Management Consultant, where he developed advanced building automation systems for power management in large intelligent buildings and industrial processes. João F. A. Martins has more than 40 book and journal publications. He has published more than 130 papers in conference proceedings with referees. He has collaborated in several national and European projects and is currently with Center of Technology and Systems (CTS), UNINOVA, Lisbon, Portugal. João F. A. Martins is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), he Chaired the IEEE Industrial Electronic Society Technical Committee on Education in Engineering and Industrial Technologies from 2013 to 2015, he is an Effective Member of the Portuguese Engineers Association and Founding Member of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education.

João Murta Pina

• João Murta-Pina holds a PhD (2010) in Electrical Engineering, from FCT NOVA. He has also an MSc (2002) and a 5-year diploma (1995) in the same field from Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal). João also holds a post-graduate degree on “Renewable energies in buildings”, from Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (Portugal). In his PhD, João focused on the design and development of power applications of high temperature superconductors (HTS), namely an all superconducting linear motor and a superconducting fault current limiter. On his MSc thesis, João applied artificial intelligence paradigms (evolutionary algorithms and fuzzy logic) for optimising the operation of an industrial glass furnace, dealing e.g. with multiple objectives and automated learning. João is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Eng. Dep. of FCT NOVA. He is responsible for advanced courses covering electrical drives and renewable energy technologies. He currently teaches in the Integrated Master Programme of “Electrical and Computers Engineering” and in the Master Programmes of “Renewable Energy Engineering” and “Production Technologies and Agro-Industrial Transformation”. João is a Senior Researcher at CTS UNINOVA, where he carries out R&D activities related with renewable energy, HTS power applications and ICT enabled energy efficiency. João is a former researcher of IN+ Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (Portugal), where he was involved in projects related with the Portuguese glass industry. João Murta-Pina has around 55 papers in international scientific journals and conferences, all with peer-review, as well as a patent. He supervised/co-supervised five PhD students (three concluded) and more than 30 MSc students. João is currently deputy on the sub-programme of Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage, from the Joint Programme on Energy Storage of EERA (European Energy Research Alliance). He is also a member of the board of the HTS Modelling Workgroup.

Pedro Pereira

• He was born in Porto, 1977. Received his PhD and MSc degree in Electrotechnical Engineering from the NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2013 and 2005 respectively. Since 2005, he is working at the Electrotechnical Engineering Department, Faculty of Sciences and Technology – NOVA de Lisboa University (FCT NOVA). At the same time, he has been working with the Energy Research Group (UNINOVA-CTS), where his main areas of interest are: Smart Grids, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. In recent years, he has also worked in electrical circuits optimization project applying evolutionary algorithms for RF circuits, and low-power design.

Rui Lopes

• Rui Amaral Lopes was born in Lagos, Portugal, in 1989. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2012 and 2017, respectively. He is now working with the Electrical Engineering department of this institution as Invited Assistant Professor. Additionally, since 2013 he has been with the Center of Technology and Systems - UNINOVA, Portugal, where he is currently working on H2020 European Project BigDataOcean and on the IEA EBC Annex67 "Energy Flexible Buildings".

Rui Lobo

• Rui F. M. Lobo holds a PhD (1991) in Physics, from FCT-NOVA University of Lisbon and obtained the title of “Agregado” (2008) in Physics Engineering also at this University as a result of post-doc research activities in Nanophysics and Nanoengineering. He launched the first experimental Nanophysics laboratory (1996) and the first discipline of Nanotechnology among the portuguese universities (1997). He was a researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico (CFM-Complexo I 1982-2002, ICEMS 2003-2013) and joined CTS-UNINOVA in 2014. He is currently Associate Professor with Habilitation (Aggregation) at the Physics Department of FCT-NOVA and senior researcher of CTS leading the Nanophysics/Nanotechnology for Energy laboratory at FCT-NOVA. Since his graduation in chemical engineering from Technical University of Lisbon (IST-1982) he has been accumulating a significant experience in several physical and chemical laboratory techniques, either in the country and abroad, mainly in the fields of nanophysics and nanotechnology, renewable hydrogen, energy efficiency, atomic and molecular physics, ultamicroscopy, nanotribology, electrochemistry, lasers and vacuum technology. He has been a research fellow at several prestigious research institutions, namely Max-Planck Institut Goettingen, Ulm University, Hahn-Meitner Institut Berlin, Univ. Complutense Madrid, São Paulo University, Rice University, University of Houston, Osaka University and Ohio University. Rui Lobo has more than one hundred relevant scientific outputs, including books authorship (national and international), book chapters, international journals, conference proceedings, invited plenary lectures and one US patent. He is a senior member of the national engineers association (Ordem dos Engenheiros), member of the portuguese association of hydrogen (ap2h2) and member of the international scientific committee of molecular beams symposia (ISMB). He has been director and collaborator in several sponsored research national and international projects mainly devoted to fundamental and applied research.

Roberto de Oliveira

• Roberto André Henrique de Oliveira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He graduated in Electrical Engineering in 2007. In 2013, received the M.Sc. Electrical Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ), Brazil (2018). During his doctorate studied at Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW-Dresden), Germany (2014-2015). Stopped his Physics graduate course in 2018 in fourth semester on Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

  Roberto Oliveira joined Institute for the Development of New Technologies (UNINOVA) - Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Electrical Engineering Department), Portugal, as a Scientific Research, in 2019, developing research on high-temperature superconducting power systems. His had a brief job at Rede Globo Television in 2018 working on kevlar cable-suspended camera remote control systems. Between 2012 and 2014 he worked as electrical engineer in the development of the magnetic levitation vehicle called MagLev-Cobra (UFRJ), the most important superconducting magnetic levitation train of the world. From 2006 to 2012, he worked as an engineer at ThyssenKrupp and Otis companies with induction and synchronous drives applied to elevators. Roberto Oliveira has around 15 papers in international scientific journals and conferences, all with peer-review. He supervised/co-supervised 3 B.Sc. students.
